After having twins and becoming a household of five, Lucinda and Jamie sold their 1930s house in Crouch End and left London for a bit more greenery and a slower rate of life in Lancashire.
A duration residential or commercial property appealed, however, all the primary schools were full in the villages they ‘d set their hearts on. However, when a little local designer began constructing eight detached homes near Preston, they decided to buy a five-bedroom house off plan. Near to the M61 and the airport, it was perfect for Sam’s task managing musicians and DJs, which includes lots of travel.
Here Lucinda shares the five-step plan that caused the country-inspired kitchen area- a dinner at the heart of their brand-new home.
‘Although we were still in London when the house was developed, we could have input in the later stages when the interior was being rounded off, as we ‘d relocated with my mum already. ‘We were expected to be there for five weeks however it became five months. If we ‘d chosen the contractor’s spec on whatever, it might not have overrun as much, but we wanted to update lots of things.
For instance, the Bert & May flooring tiles for the hall took 12 weeks to show up, holding up the installation of the stairs. ‘In the end, the builders prohibited us from the website for three months as we were slowing things down! At the time it hurt– probably more for my mum– but it was a lovely hot summer season, so we managed to get outside a lot.’
MY COOKING AREA MOTIVATION
‘When I used to work in Clerkenwell, I popped into the Devol showroom and fell for their Shaker-style kitchens– that was my motivation. ‘Having resided in cities all our lives, we might never actually go rustic, however here we’re surrounded by woodland with four peacocks next door. This led me to choose natural oak parquet floor covering, dark green Shaker units with antique bronze manages and a Belfast sink.
An L-shaped cooking area layout with a big island and concealed devices made good sense, and I didn’t desire cupboards all over, so we have some racks at the side for a bit of extra storage. As it’s the very first thing you see when you stroll in the space, I desired a cooking area with impact and wow factor.’
OUR NEW LIFE
‘Pals and household enjoy the new cooking area– it’s so friendly. In summer we open the doors to the courtyard garden, and the entire family comes round at Christmas. I spend time on the couch gazing at the sky. It sounds trippy. However, it’s something I couldn’t perform in London. ‘We’re still a bit overwhelmed by it. Our utility space is larger than our previous cooking area, so we have more area than we’ve ever had.
‘The only thing we might add is a built-in bench and window seat to create a snug dining area, but we couldn’t be happier with the way it’s turned out. It resembles the Devol kitchen I wanted but for a portion of the rate. Having moved three times in the past five years, I do not believe we’ll be moving once again at any time quickly.’
Dream house never could be a dream house if only they are not protecting the family, so you have to make sure that the house is safe from danger.
