TOURING MAP

EXPLORING KANGAROO ISLAND.

You can reach Kangaroo Island by vehicla ferry from Cape Jervis on the southern tip of the Fleurieu Peninsula or by plane from Adelaide. From time to time other ferry services have operated from Glenelg in Adelaide but these seem to have little success. The SA Visitor Centre in Adelaide can tell you whether alternative services are operating at any time.
The island is the third largest on the Australian coast and is 155km long by 55km wide and many of the roads are loose surface, adding to its remote and solitary atmosphere.
There are 5 National Parks, 19 Conservation Areas and many protested areas and an abundance of wildlife including koalas, seals, kangaroos and echidnas. There are over 850 species of plants catalogued including some introduced ones. Wildflowers are best seen in September/October.
