EXPLORING THE SOUTH EAST OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
The Princes Hwy (A1) runs along the western edge of the south east and the Riddoch Hwy along the east through
Naracoorte, Padthaway and Penola. The north is easily accessible from the Dukes Hwy between Bordertown and Tailem Bend.
There are extensive wineries at Padthaway and at Coonawarra, 50km north of Mt Gambier and this is also an historic
religious area where Mother Mary McKillop lived and worked at nearby Penola.
The western shore of the area has the pretty seaside ports of Robe, Kingston SE and
Beachport and further north, between Kingston and Meningie is the acclaimed Coorong National Park.
At Naracoorte you can visit the World Heritage Listed Limestone Caves and the kids especially delight
in the Giant Lobster at Kingston.
The area is dotted with sinkholes, lakes and extinct volcanos, the most famous being at Mt Gamberr and containing
the Blue Lake.
The South East is a wonderful area to spend a few days at exploring and relaxing.
Roads interconnect all the towns and a round trip can begin and end anywhere.
