Nestled between the Southern Mt Lofty Ranges and the sea Mclaren Vale is one of several attractive and historic villages
on the Fleurieu Peninsula producing fine wines and with a history dating back to the mid 1800s. It is best known for Shiraz,
Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, although the Seaview range of Champagnes are among Australia's finest. The region includes
Reynella and Clarendon in the north; McLaren Vale, McLaren Flat and Blewitt Springs at the centre; Willunga and Mt Compass to
the south and Sellicks Beach and Aldinga Beach to the west. there are some 90 wineries in the region.
The region is best known for its Shiraz which many claim is the best in the world and was officially recognised as a winregion in 1997.
Each June on the Queen's Birthday long weekend the Sea & Vines Festival attracts over 30,000 visitors a day to enjoy the
carnival atmosphere and explore some 50 wineries which add food and wine to the menu. Many of these wineries have restaurants and
accommodation all year round.
There are around 100 accommodation places of all types in and around the region which is less than an hour drive from the
