EXPLORING THE SOUTHERN PORTS.
The Southern Ports lie along Alt 1, a deviation from the Princes Hwy (A1) between
the South Australian border and where the Alt1 rejoins the A1 at Kingston SE and enters
The Coorong.
For this reason anyone travelling the Princes Highway between Adelaide and Melbourne can easily take the
short detour to explore these pretty seaside towns. From Adelaide, Kingston SE, the most northerly
of the towns, is around 300km travelling through Tailem Bend, Meningie and
The Coorong.
The principal towns are Kingston, Robe, Beachport and Port MacDonnell but there are smaller places like
Nora Criena, Mount Benson and Carpenters Rocks.
There are several parks along the way including Canunda National Park near Millicent and
Piccaninnie Ponds near Port MacDonnell, and accommodation will be found using the search button
at the right.
There are also World Heritage listed Caves at Naracoorte and the Coonawarra Wineries near Penola
only 50km or so from the coast.
